Band electro-pop australiana formata da Luke Steele dei “The Sleepy Jackson” e Nick Littlemore degli “Pnau“, gli “Empire of the Sun“ hanno rubato il nome all’omonimo film girato nel 1987 da Steven Spielberg (nel cast troviamo Christian Bale, John Malkovich, Miranda Richardson e Nigel Havers), che ha sua volta è stato tratto dal racconto scritto da J. G.
Ballard nel 1984.
Nel libro e nel film si raccontano le vicende di Jamie “Jim” Graham, un giovane ragazzo di famiglia inglese che vive a Shangai e che durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale viene catturato, fatto prigioniero e internato nel campo giapponese di Lunghua.
Gli “Empire of the Sun” hanno debuttato il 30 Agosto del 2008 con il loro primo singolo “Walking on a Dream“, ottenendo un grandissimo successo.
